I wanted to let you know about an incredible opportunity opening up at Community Life Church in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. As you may or may not know we are a vibrant/ family-oriented church plant that started almost 5 years ago.

Starting from nothing we have seen consistent growth over the past 5 years and God has truly blessed our little church. Made up of mostly younger families we are full of life and energy and a bit of noise as well :). Our church mission is to be ‘REAL PEOPLE living in REAL LIFE with our REAL GOD’. We want to be authentic; No pretentious, got it all figured out Christians. We live out our faith in everyday life; meeting in homes, coffee shops, dance studios, etc! And we do it with the conviction that God is alive and moving all around us in our world today; going after Jericho’s walls with nothing more than a trumpet and a promise from God!!

With that conviction in our hearts, we have sought out needs in our community and have been led into the area of providing good clean affordable housing for families in need. About 4 years ago God opened up the door for us to partner with a society here in town ( led by our local mayor and his wife as they approached our church and asked if we would help with what they were doing to deal with the issue of housing. That role has grown from managing one apartment building to two now (18 units) as well as playing an integral role on the board. About two and half years ago we started working on an even more ambitious plan to build a brand new 46 unit building, and the dream for our new Maitland Street Village was born. After much planning the dream is now underway. Our brand new 15-million-dollar project will be comprised of mostly 3 bedroom family housing with a mix of some 1 and 2 bedroom units for seniors. Partially funded through BC Housing it will be truly affordable housing with a mix of 3 different financial tiers (market, subsidized, deep subsidy) rent costs for tenants. We have also designed office space for our staff to be onsite as well as a large community meeting room that we can utilize to offer programs to support low income families in our community. Construction on the new building began in Sept and is projected to be completed in Nov 2021.

At the completion of this project, we will be responsible for the tenancy of 64 total units and the oversight of 3 separate buildings all providing good clean affordable housing to people in need. And there is more to come :). Up until now I have mostly managed this on my own, but with the increased capacity, we are now in a place where we need to hire one full time staff and one part time staff to work alongside us.

This is going to be such a cool role for someone that has a heart for lost people; that cares about community; and desires to be involved in helping those in need. It’s an opportunity for someone to work ALONGSIDE our local church as a MISSIONARY to our community.
