BC/Yukon District, The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada

::CULTURAL LANGUAGE GROUPS::

Two hundred and four nation groups were represented in the immigrants that came to Canada in 2000.  225,000 new immigrants
have been arriving in Canada on average each year.

This translates into well over 3.5 million new Canadians to make our country home in the last two decades.

Two thirds or 140 of the nation groups that account for one third of the newcomers to Canada are from underevangelized or
unevangelized nations.

There are 87 unreached ethnic people groups in Canada.  In our part of Canada we must especially focus on groups coming from
Mainland China, Indo-Asia, Central America and Iran.

District Response and Priorities

- We have approximately 40 local churches that minister in languages other than English.  The largest numbers of congregations
  are in the Korean, Spanish or Chinese languages.

- A guiding group of Chinese pastors and ministry heads has been established to pray, strategize and advise the District Leadership
   Team regarding the next steps we should take to address the rising number of Chinese coming to our region especially from
    Mainland China.

- The result has been a church plant on the UBC campus in Vancouver.

- We continue to encourage our fellowship of churches to partner with our Punjabi Masihi Church in the Delta-Surrey area.
   Our desire is to see a strong “Antioch” like church to minister to the Punjabi population of over 250,000 in our region.

- Our district has been an active partner with the “Intentionally Intercultural Church” movement to develop conferences and
   resources to assist churches that want to reach and disciple our multiple cultures through their ministries.
